The day her 17-year-old son Sean ushered a backyard squirrel into their kitchen was a signature moment for Laureen Majeske of Sterling Heights.
"'Grandpa's squirrel, grandpa's squirrel!' he kept saying as it ran around the house," recalled Majeske, whose twin sons Sean and Shea, and 19-year-old daughter Darienne, have all been diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome. The genetic disorder causes a range of cognitive impairments and is similar to autism.
Sean watched gleefully as the panicked squirrel tore through the house, all the while smiling and clapping.
