A refrigerated transport company has agreed to pay a $50,000 settlement to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit in an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission case in which it allegedly refused to hire a job applicant it had been interested in once it learned he was disabled.
According to the statement issued Friday by the EEOC, Andrew Scott, who became a paraplegic as a result of a 2003 car accident, was contacted by Dallas-based Stevens Transport after he posted his resume on a job search website. Based on a successful phone interview, Mr. Scott was scheduled for an in-person interview for two open jobs. The company first became aware of his disability when he arrived for the interview.
