Denial or Fear. My discussions with clients regarding long term care (LTC) planning often result in the following responses: “I’m just going to drop dead.” “No one in my family ever needed long term care.” “I’m a veteran, the government will take care of me.” “I will self-insure.”
Or, to the contrary, a couple discloses the devastation to the family when their estate and legacy was lost to the cost of providing long-term care. They want to know what they can do to protect their future.
First, understand the risk. It is either 0% or 100%. Either you will need it or you won’t. Statistics tell the story but you don’t know which side of the statistics you will be on.
