One of my heroes - Paul Evancho is a fireman and volunteers at a children's burn camp.
As you can tell from his email, he's still a Marine at heart:
"Just a quick note to say hi. I have been away for the last 10 days. I was attending the Arizona Children's Burn Camp as a volunteer for the 13th year and it was the best year yet. It is easily the best week of my year.
Unfortunately, all of the campers attending the week long camp have been burned at some point in their young lives, either by thermal heat, fire, steam, chemicals etc. It too, is the best week of their year. For one week, they don't have to worry about teasing, ridicule, ugly remarks.... All they have to do is be kids.... and have fun.
The experts say that the benefits that these kids receive from this camp are immeasurable. I feel like a thief, because I think I get more out of this camp than they do. I have learned more about forgiveness, courage, strength and perseverance from these kids. They are amazing."
