The governmental pipeline that delivers federal Medicaid dollars to mental health and substance abuse patients in Muskegon County is shifting.
That's why Community Mental Health Services of Muskegon County is holding a series of forums to talk about the change and how it will affect the care people receive.
The county's mental health group depends on Medicaid for about 90 percent of its funding, Community Mental Health Services of Muskegon County Executive Director Julia Rupp said.
The change in how the Medicaid dollars are being distributed involves a consolidation of funding entities -- called Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans, or PIHP's -- that receive and pass on federal Medicaid funds distributed by the Michigan Department of Community Health. Community mental health groups will continue to operate at the county level, but the PIHP's are being consolidated from 18 into just 10 groups state-wide.
