Paid sick time, the ordinance reasons, "results in reduced worker turnover, which leads to reduced costs incurred from advertising, interviewing and training new hires creating a better trained and more reliable workforce."
The Fritz plan also would dissuade people from coming to work with "conditions that reduce their productivity - a problem that costs the national economy an estimated $160 billion annually."
In other words, businesses that object to the proposed mandate simply don't know what's good for them. If they had the business expertise that proponents and supportive commissioners have, they'd know that their employees would become more productive and reliable under the mandate, and they'd know that they'd save some money to boot.
