Medicare Part D Prescription drug coverage news review today August 12, 2013: Medicare Part D is the government’s program to federally subsidize the cost of prescription drugs for Medicare beneficiaries in the United States. A majority of the beneficiaries are seniors living throughout the nation on fixed budgets. Fluctuating costs linked to their prescription drug coverage can cause some beneficiaries to choose between daily living needs and drug coverage. It is a dilemma that has been all to common across the Medicare landscape and one which the federal government continues to address. Although congress is currently on summer break, Republicans and Democrats will have to deal with budgetary and sequestration based issues upon return. Medicare and Medicaid associated costs will be a part of the policy talks. Policy makers will work to make Medicare Part D policy more efficient so that seniors may continue to choose from a varied drug plan menu which not only meets their medical needs but also gives them access to inexpensive options. President Obama has recently reported that he plans on doing this by increasing competition between individual drug makers. According to the USA Today, Medicare Part D premiums will remain stable during 2014.
